This study is a great Beth Moore study! This one has a bit of a different format. The study has 5 different "levels" as she calls them. The levels all build on each other, but the idea is that you can do as much or as little as you feel led to do:Level 1 is simply watching the DVD sessions and filling in the notes from that, level 2 is doing the homework daily, level 3 is a directed writing of the book of James (which she has dedicated pages in the back of the book for), level 4 is reading the excerpts that her daughter Melissa has written to give you more background on certain discussions from that week (usually 2 of these articles per week), level 5 is memorizing the entire book of James (which she outlines as a 5 month process and gives a website with great resources to help you out). The study itself gets into what it means to be a Christian and how faith and mercy should look in our lives on a practical level. As always, Beth Moore is easy to understand, but challenging and encouraging! This is a great study for repeat Beth Moore studiers or those new to her studies!
I am doing this study this summer with my church and I just love Beth Moore. She is so real and gets into scripture for us in what we deal with now as Christians in this ever changing world...no matter what her study is she is relatable and that is what makes her so great!
"James" is such a practical book in the Bible, and Beth Moore takes it verse by verse in this study. There are different levels in which you can do the study. Level 1 is videos only (no home-work), level 2 is videos and home-work (home-work is 5 days per week), level 3 is videos, home-work, and writing out the book of James (there is room provided to do that in this book), level 4 is all of the above plus extra reading that takes you deeper yet (in the book too), and lastly, level 5 which is all the above plus memorizing the 5 chapters of James. You choose which level best suits you, and jump in! I highly recommend this study!! Beth outdid herself here!
A good study to do with a group. You will definitely need the DVDs that accommodate the study - we have a group leader who ordered them and we watch them together when we meet. I really like Beth Moore - her passion and energy definitely show in the DVD series.
It’s one thing to be moved by scripture and learn a great deal from Bible studies. It’s another thing altogether to LIVE IT! Are you a forgetful hearer or an effectual doer?This study is exactly what you need.
Have always love Beth Moore studies, this is certainly no exception. Initially, studying the book of James would not have been my first choice in her studies but I must say I am drawn into this study more than some of the others. James, in his short 5 chapters, says so much we need to hear. After all, he was Jesus' brother. how could he believe "his" bro was truly the Son of God! And, of course, Beth Moore's inspiration, that truly comes from God, to pull out what I would have never drawn from James on my own.
Ms Beth brings it again. This study allows you to engage on 5 different levels, based on what you can do in your life right now!
Beth Moore has the ability to make me fall in love with the Word of God every time I journey through one of her studies. James: Mercy Triumphs pulled back the layers of my faith and asked me repeatedly, "What good is it?"After working through this study (and watching the corresponding videos, which I downloaded from Lifeway) I found that my faith is informing more of my decisions. I'm growing in compassion and serving with better motives than ever before.
